LIFT Session III: Week Three (Sept. 25 - Oct. 1)

Throughout this session of LIFT, we will be focusing on the six marks of discipleship: Prayer, Worship, Read the Bible, Serve, Relate and Give.  The word that helps us remember these marks is the word PoWeRSuRGe (with the initial letter of each mark capitalized).  Indeed the marks give us the surge of power we need to live our lives of faith.

Read our weekly scripture

II Timothy 3:16-17

All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.

Talk about the scripture and the discussion questions below

1) What about the scripture captured your imagination this week?

2) How much of the Bible have you read? What are your favorite parts of scripture? Have you read scripture to help you address, respond to circumstances in your life?

3) What does it mean to you when we say that ALL scripture is inspired by God?

Pray for and with each other (or share the Lord's Prayer together)

Bless each other with a sign of the cross on each other's forehead, saying "God loves you and so do I"

This week, commit to read the Bible every day for at least 5 minutes.

Read our weekly scripture

Psalm 100

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord will gladness; come into his presence with singing.  Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name. For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

Talk about the scripture and the discussion questions below

1) What about the scripture captured your imagination this week? What about the sermon captured your attention this week?

2) What do you value about worship? What gets you up each Sunday morning for corporate worship? What feeds your soul? Can worship take place outside of a church service?

3) Discuss the following quote.  "Ultimately, worship is not about us! We worship, not to have our needs met, but to have our needs change. We worship God not because God needs our praise, but because God is worthy of our praise."

Pray for and with each other (or share the Lord's Prayer together)

Bless each other with a sign of the cross on each other's forehead, saying "God loves you and so do I"

This week, commit to come to worship each Sunday at Bethel during LIFT.
