LIFT Session III: Week Four (October 2-8)

Throughout this session of LIFT, we will be focusing on the six marks of discipleship: Prayer, Worship, Read the Bible, Serve, Relate and Give.  The word that helps us remember these marks is the word PoWeRSuRGe (with the initial letter of each mark capitalized).  Indeed the marks give us the surge of power we need to live our lives of faith.

Share Highs and Lows

Read our weekly scripture

Galatians 5:13

For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become servants of one another.

Mark 9: 33-35

Then they came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, "What were yo arguing about on the way?" But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest.  He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them "Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all."

Talk about the scripture and the discussion questions below

1) What about the scripture captured your imagination this week?

2) Where have you found meaningful opportunities for serving others in your life? Is there a difference between servant opportunities you choose to participate in and those realities of life where being a servant is thrust upon you? Can they both be meaningful and important?

3) Tell of a time when you have been served effectively by others. What was your feeling in being the recipient? Is there a gift in allowing another to serve you?

Pray for and with each other (or share the Lord's Prayer together)

Bless each other with a sign of the cross on each other's forehead, saying "God loves you and so do I"

This week, find a way to serve a neighbor.
